1 The Office and other generators of statistics shall proceed with specific exploitations of statistical data for the federal administrative units and, resources permitting, for third parties.
2 Generators of federal statistics may disclose personal data and data concerning legal persons to statistical services, federal research institutions or third parties, for purposes unrelated to persons, and especially in the contexts of research, planning or statistics:
a.
if the data are made anonymous as soon as the purpose of processing permits;
b.
if the recipient only discloses these data to third parties with the consent of the body which generated them;
c.
if the recipient's chosen form of disclosure of the results does not enable the persons concerned to be identified; and
d.
if there is every indication that the recipient will preserve statistical secrecy and the other data protection provisions.
3 The Office may carry out limited-term work (research, analysis, advice) associated with official statistics if the project sponsor bears the costs or provides the necessary staff.

Data must be processed for purposes not related to specific persons, in particular for research, planning or statistical purposes, provided that the measures set out in Art. 19 para. 2 of the act are complied with. See also Art. 9 of the Statistical Surveys Ordinance (SR 431.012.1), which sets out the conditions for the transmission of individual data.
